This pediatric nursing course provides a complete review of essential topics for NCLEX preparation and safe clinical practice. The course begins with newborn care, demonstrating how to swaddle a baby and perform essential assessments, including Moro, rooting, sucking, and palmar grasp reflexes. Students will learn vital signs assessment for newborns and infants and the normal ranges expected in pediatric patients.
The course covers developmental milestones for infants and toddlers, including mnemonics to remember key skills and behaviors. Pediatric pharmacology is emphasized with weight-based drug dosage calculations, safe dose ranges, and drug math for neonates, infants, and children.
Common pediatric conditions are reviewed in detail, including cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, congenital heart defects such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, and tetralogy of Fallot. Nursing interventions, pathophysiology, clinical signs, and NCLEX-style review questions are included for each disorder.
Special focus is given to recognizing pediatric emergencies such as anaphylactic shock and appropriate nursing interventions.
