This course provides an essential review of fundamental nursing skills, communication, delegation, infection control, and documentation for nursing students and practicing nurses preparing for NCLEX. Delegation topics include understanding RN, LPN, and UAP duties, and scope of practice, ensuring safe and legal task assignments. Infection control principles are reviewed, including standard and isolation precautions, contact, droplet, and airborne precautions, proper PPE use, and sterile gloving techniques. Effective communication skills are highlighted, including nurse-to-nurse communication, nurse-to-physician communication, and strategies for giving thorough nursing shift reports. Documentation is covered in detail, with instruction on reading patient charts, FDAR charting, care plan development, and NCLEX practice scenarios for priority actions. Practical nursing calculations, including intake and output (I&O), are included to enhance critical thinking. The course also reviews head-to-toe assessments, covering vital signs, physical examination techniques, and systematic patient evaluations. By completing this course, nurses will gain confidence in clinical decision-making, accurate documentation, safe delegation, infection prevention, effective communication, and essential NCLEX preparation skills.
