This course provides an extensive review of integumentary system nursing, focusing on burn management, wound care, and skin assessment for NCLEX preparation. It covers burn types, degrees, pathophysiology, and treatment, including fluid resuscitation with the Parkland Burn Formula and assessment using the Rule of Nines. Wound care skills include suture and surgical staple removal techniques, as well as prevention and management of pressure ulcers across all stages (1–4 and unstageable). Skin cancer identification and management are reviewed, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and actinic keratosis, along with the ABCDE method for melanoma assessment. Peripheral vascular disease and related arterial versus venous ulcers are discussed, with a focus on characteristics, assessment, and nursing interventions. Additional clinical skills include capillary refill time assessment and overall head-to-toe skin evaluation. By the end of this course, nurses will confidently perform skin assessments, implement evidence-based care for burns and wounds, educate patients on skin health, and apply critical thinking to NCLEX questions and clinical practice.
