This course provides an in-depth review of hematology nursing for NCLEX preparation, covering blood disorders, anemia types, coagulation, and transfusion therapy. Students will learn about sickle cell anemia, including pathophysiology, symptoms, crisis management, and genetic traits. Pernicious anemia and iron deficiency anemia are explored with treatment options, pathophysiology, and nursing interventions. The course explains deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and venous thromboembolism (VTE), including Virchow’s Triad, symptoms, and management. Blood transfusions are detailed, covering procedure steps, reaction types, complications like hemolytic or febrile reactions, and patient safety. Blood group compatibility, ABO and Rh factor, and lab interpretation skills such as CBC, PT/INR, aPTT, BMP, and CMP are included for critical NCLEX knowledge. Additionally, anticoagulant therapies such as heparin and warfarin are reviewed, emphasizing pharmacology, nursing interventions, and patient education. By completing this course, nurses will confidently assess, monitor, and manage hematologic disorders, interpret lab results accurately, administer transfusions safely, and provide evidence-based care for NCLEX and clinical practice.
