This course provides a practical and application-focused introduction to process equipment design used in chemical and process engineering. It is designed for chemical engineers, process engineers, and engineering students who want to understand how core equipment is selected, designed, and troubleshot in real industrial environments.

Learners will explore the fundamentals of distillation and absorption tower operation, including hydraulics, tray design considerations, and performance limitations. The course also covers separator selection, internal components, and key design criteria, with real-world case studies such as troubleshooting foam formation in crude oil separators.

A major focus is placed on heat exchangers, especially shell-and-tube exchangers. You will learn how to select the optimum TEMA type, understand how heat transfer coefficients impact performance, compare shell-and-tube exchangers with air-cooled exchangers, and identify the most suitable option for different process requirements. The course also introduces thermal design parameters and basic sizing concepts used in industry.

By the end of the course, learners will have a clear understanding of common process equipment, how design decisions affect performance and operability, and how to apply engineering judgment when selecting and designing equipment for oil & gas, petrochemical, and chemical processing applications.
