Opportunity Overview
Our client is an early-stage venture capital firm targeting investment opportunities across fintech, deep tech, climate tech, and their intersections. With presence across San Francisco, Honolulu, New York, and Singapore, they deploy private capital to Seed and Series A companies while providing operational expertise, capital formation advisory, and talent access. This role presents a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of venture capital and technology as the first dedicated internal engineer, taking ownership of the technical stack and driving measurable impact on how the firm operates.
Role Description
We're looking for a Full Stack Developer / Data Engineer to join our client's team. If you're a highly autonomous, versatile engineer with strong ownership and product mindset who thrives on building AI-powered internal tools in low-oversight environments, this could be the opportunity for you. You'll play a crucial role in designing, building, and deploying production-grade solutions across the full stack whilst constructing robust data pipelines and implementing LLM-backed workflows for internal teams. This position offers significant personal and professional growth within a founder-led venture capital environment that values scrappy execution and meaningful business impact.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Product Delivery – Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly reliable, scalable internal applications and services from architecture to production.
Technical Ownership – Act as the sole engineer on the team, owning the entire technical roadmap with full autonomy and accountability.
Stakeholder Translation – Engage directly with investment and operations teams to translate unstructured business context into clear, shippable technical requirements.
Data Pipeline Engineering – Construct robust data pipelines for ingestion, enrichment, transformation, and serving with specific focus on preparing data for AI and LLM workloads.
LLM Workflow Implementation – Deliver internal tools and workflows leveraging LLMs for summarisation, entity extraction, classification, and other investment process enhancements.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineering Experience – Two to four years of hands-on experience in software, data, or platform engineering delivering production workloads.
Core Technical Stack – Proven professional experience with Python, SQL, and AWS for data and application workloads.
Data Pipeline Expertise – Direct experience building and optimising data pipelines for ingestion, enrichment, and transformation.
AI and LLM Delivery – Demonstrable experience delivering AI or LLM-backed features or internal workflows such as RAG, semantic search, or automated summarisation.
Full-Stack Deployment – Experience designing, building, and deploying full-stack solutions including infrastructure, API services, and front-end UIs.
Product and Ownership Mindset – Highly comfortable with autonomy, high degree of ownership, and ability to operate independently in low-oversight environments with startup energy.
AI-First Development – Excited about and currently using AI coding tools to amplify developer velocity; experience building applications with OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, RAG, embeddings, and vector databases.
Bonus Qualifications
Front-End Frameworks – Experience with React, Retool, or similar internal app builders.
VC or FinServ Sector – Prior experience or familiarity with the Venture Capital or Financial Services sector.
Data Science – Experience or interest in Data Science including model development, feature engineering, or experimentation.
