Job Description

The Kano State Government of Nigeria, West Africa is in the process of building new Water Supply Plants along with the rehabilitation of existing ones. This process will cover general improvement of the water supply infrastructure, maintenance of high capacity Generators, maintenance of Raw Water and High Lift Pumps as well as the maintenance of other electro-mechanical equipment. The overall objective of the entire program is to rejuvenate and enhance the water supply infrastructure and the process of portable water supply to the Urban and Rural Areas of Kano State. 

Towards meeting this cardinal objective, the Kano State Government is desirous of obtaining the services of qualified and experienced professionals to be employed to work in Kano State, Nigeria to participate in the planned portable water supply program. Consequently, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria hereby, on behalf of the Kano State Government, invites applications from interested and qualified professionals 

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will play a vital role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of all electrical and power systems associated with the water supply infrastructure. This includes managing the electrical aspects of high-lift and raw water pump stations, treatment plant controls, backup power systems, and instrumentation for effective and efficient water delivery operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, review, and supervise the installation and commissioning of electrical systems in water treatment plants and pumping stations.
• Ensure the proper functioning of high-capacity generators, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, transformers, and control panels.
• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on all electrical equipment, including emergency power systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults and ensure safe and continuous operation of power systems.
• Prepare technical documentation including electrical designs, layouts, wiring diagrams, and load calculations.
• Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and control system engineers to ensure coordinated implementation.
• Ensure compliance with national electrical codes, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols.
• Assist in the procurement process by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor bids for electrical components.
• Train and supervise technical support staff in the safe handling and maintenance of electrical systems.

 

Job Requirements

Position Summary

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in electrical engineering, preferably in water supply, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, generator sets, electrical panels, and industrial automation systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA).
• Professional registration or membership with a recognized engineering body (e.g., COREN) is an advantage.
• Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining high-voltage and low-voltage equipment.
• Familiarity with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP) and Microsoft Office tools.
• Willingness to work on-site in various project locations across Kano State.
